Harvard Club of Japan Prize Book Program
“Harvard Prize Books” are awards given to outstanding high school students. In recognizing their scholastic and personal achievements, the Harvard Club of Japan seeks to inspire their future academic studies and introduces them to the opportunities available at Harvard.
The Harvard Prize Book program originally started in 1910 with alumni awarding a few books to students in the New England area. Donated by Harvard Clubs and Shared Interest Groups (SIGs), Prize Books are now presented annually in more than 1,000 high schools around the world. Recipients are exemplary students in the next-to-graduating high school class who display excellence in scholarship and achievement in nonacademic fields. Prize Books are awarded without regard to race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national or ethnic origin, or political beliefs. Although Prize Books do not necessarily guarantee that the recipients can be enrolled in Harvard, the receipients are recognized as being well-equipped to take on the challenge of studying at one of the world's leading universities and colleges. The award recipients can mention their receipt of the Prize Book in their university application materials.
「ハーバード・プライズ・ブック」は、優れた高校生を対象とした賞です。学業や個人的な成果を認めることで、日本ハーバード・クラブが、彼らの将来の学術的な努力を鼓舞し、ハーバードで経験できる可能性を彼らに紹介するものです。
ハーバード・ブック・プログラムは、1910年に始まり、当初はニューイングランド地域の学生に卒業生が数冊の本を授与するという形でスタートしました。現在では、世界のハーバード・クラブらから提供されたプライズ・ブックが、世界中の1,000以上の高校で毎年授与されています。受賞者は、卒業年次の1年前に在籍する生徒で、学業および非学業分野で卓越した成果を示した模範的な学生です。プライズ・ブックは、人種、宗教、性別、性的指向、国籍や民族、政治的信念に関係なく授与されます。プライズ・ブックを受賞したからといって必ずしもハーバード大学に入学できるわけではありませんが、受賞者は、世界の優れた大学に挑戦するにふさわしいと生徒として認められことになります。受賞者は、大学への願書等に、プライズ・ブックを受賞したことを記載することができます。
Eligibility and Criteria
対象、及び、基準
● The participating schools in Japan are high schools and integrated junior and senior high schools which are recognized by the Harvard Club of Japan as nurturing excellent students aspiring to attend leading overseas universities.
● Each school is asked to nominate only one student who is actively considering admission to leading overseas universities, including Harvard University, as part of their academic planning.
● The student must not only have a high level of English proficiency but also demonstrate exceptional achievements in academics, extracurricular activities, and an interest in global issues.
● The award recipient must be a second-year high school student (or a fifth-year integrated junior and senior high school student), and the selection process should, in principle, ensure that the award can be presented at the end-of-year ceremony for the corresponding academic year.
● 日本における参加校は、著名な海外大学への進学を目指す生徒を優秀な生徒を育てていると日本ハーバード・クラブが認めた、高等学校および中高一貫教育校です。
● 各校は、ハーバード大学を含む卓越した海外大学への進学を進路選択の一部として積極的に検討している生徒を、1名のみ、推薦することが求められます。
● 推薦される生徒は、高い英語力を持つだけでなく、学業、課外活動、国際問題への関心といった分野で卓越した成果を示している必要があります。
● 受賞者は高校2年生（または中等教育学校5年生）でなければならず、選考プロセスは、原則として当該年次の終業式で賞を授与できるよう行われる必要があります。
