As one of the world’s leading nations in drug discovery, Japan has made significant contributions to healthcare. How can Japan overcome the pressing challenge of its "declining capacity for innovation"?

HBS Club of Japan regularly hosts events regarding healthcare. This time, in collaboration with Innovation for Healthcare, Inc.(CEO: Yuriko Fujii, HBS AMP), we have the honor to welcome Mr. Milano Furuta, CFO of Takeda Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd.  As a young leader managing operations across 80 countries/regions with 50,000 employees, Mr. Furuta will discuss about "Driving Corporate Transformation and Innovation: Challenges in Management."

The moderator will be Mr. Osamu Nagayama, Honorary Chairman of Chugai Pharmaceutical, also  Chairman of "Growth Strategy for Healthcare", a monthly innovation forum for CEO and C-level executives in healthcare, which Innovation for Healthcare has been organizing for 31 years under the leadership of top bureaucrats and powerful leaders in healthcare.  Additionally, the discussion will feature Mr. Masato Iwasaki, former Representative Director of Takeda(HBS PLD), and Dr. Shinsuke Muto, Chairman of Integrity Healthcare, who are senior advisers of Growth Strategy for Healthcare.

 

Speaker

Mr. Milano Furuta(CFO of Takeda Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd.

Mr, Furuta joined Takeda in 2010, and has worked on various projects in corporate strategy, corporate development, and post-merger integration in Japan and Switzerland. He managed the Diabetes Business Unit in Mexico, served as general manager in Sweden, leading the launch of new products, corporate strategy officer and chief of staff in Japan for two years, and president of Japan Pharma Business Unit of Takeda for three years before being appointed to his current role.

Prior to joining Takeda, Mr. Furuta worked as an equity research analyst at an investment management firm in the United States. He began his career in banking and private equity investment in Japan.

Mr. Furuta holds an MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and a bachelor’s degree in international affairs from Hitotsubashi University in Japan.
