About Mr. Noriyuki Shikata:

Mr. Noriyuki Shikata has held numerous influential positions within Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Prime Minister’s Office. Most recently, he served as the Cabinet Secretary for Public Affairs from October 2021 to June 2024, under Prime Minister Kishida. His extensive career also includes roles such as Assistant Minister and Director-General of the Economic Affairs Bureau and Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Japan in China.

Shikata’s impressive background spans key international assignments, including his tenure as Political Minister at the Embassy in the U.K., and roles at the Delegation of Japan to the OECD and the Embassy of Japan in the U.S. He has been instrumental in shaping Japan’s diplomatic and economic policies.

A graduate of Kyoto University and Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, Shikata is also a respected academic and was a Visiting Professor at Kyoto University’s Graduate School of Public Policy.
