Statement on events in Charlottesville by President Drew G. Faust

August 14, 2017

Cambridge, Mass.

“The recent events in Charlottesville have been deeply distressing. The abhorrent hatred, racism, and violence carried out by neo-Nazi, KKK, and other white supremacist groups deserve our strongest condemnation. Such actions are anathema to the values of our society and to the principles of our university community. Our deepest sympathies and condolences are with all of those who have been affected by events at the University of Virginia and in the surrounding area. We stand alongside them and remain resolute in restating Harvard's commitment to the shared values of inclusion, belonging, and respect for each other that are hallmarks of American higher education, and at the heart of who we are as a nation.”
