Vino Veritas: Top Napa Winery Araujo Estate
To kick off the first Vino Veritas event of the year, the Harvard Club of Japan and Michael Khoo, President of WineInStyle, are pleased to once again present an intimate dinner with the acclaimed vintners Bart Araujo (HBS '71), Daphne Araujo and their daughter Jaime. Araujo Estate is considered to be one of the "First Growths" of Napa, along with Screaming Eagle, Harlan Estate and Colgin. This will be a wonderful event to get to know the vintners, their wines, and their Estate in a private setting at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo.
The Vintner - Bart attended HBS when an injury sidelined his ambition of becoming a major-league baseball player, and returned to his native California to start a successful construction business. In 1990, Bart and Daphne bought the Eisele Vineyard, which had long supplied Joseph Phelps, and began producing a limited quantity of critically acclaimed and highly sought after Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc and Syrah.
The Estate - The Eisele vineyard was established more than 120 years ago, and was first planted with Cabernet Sauvignon in 1964. When the Araujos acquired it, they began extensive renovation of the winery, refined the varietal mix and upgraded clone-rootstock combinations to realize the property's potential for joining the international elite of limited production wine estates focused exclusively on quality.
