In today’s world, as ESG investment increases sharply, “responsible” business (including CSR) is often discussed—but what exactly does it mean? Though “responsible” business seems more prevalent today, it is not a new concept. Join the HBS Club of Japan with the esteemed Professor Geoffrey Jones to learn about real historical examples, drawn from Professor Jones’s research on sustainable entrepreneurship.

We will discuss the “deep responsibility” of business leaders, focusing on certain individuals from the nineteenth century until the present day, including Japanese leaders such as Eiichi Shibusawa.

You can find Professor Jones’s latest Working Knowledge article on Eiichi Shibusawa here: https://hbswk.hbs.edu/item/is-the-business-world-finally-ready-for-the-wisdom-of-shibusawa
