Takeshi Niinami of Suntory and Kanoko Oishi of Mediva to receive Business Statesman and Stateswoman of the Year awards. NOTE: This is NOT a Harvard Club of Japan event so please direct all queries to HBS Club.

HBS Club of Japan is  very EXCITED to announce the Business Statesman and Stateswoman of the Year Awards for 2014, which will take place on November 20, 2014 at the New Otani Hotel from 18:30.

This year HBSCOJ is especially PROUD to be honoring TWO HBS ALUMNI for the first time together:  Mr. Takeshi Niinami (MBA 1991), President & Representative Director of Suntory Holdings Ltd., and Ms. Kanoko Oishi (MBA 1988), Founder, President and CEO of Mediva Inc.

This is the club’s premier annual event and is a great way to network with fellow alumni while hearing from successful business leaders in Japan who are setting the pace for the revitalization of the Japanese economy. 

Business Statesman of the Year: Mr. Takeshi Niinami was recently appointed President and Representative Director of Suntory Holdings Ltd. after twelve years as President and CEO of Lawson Inc.  Mr. Niinami is credited with building Lawson’s very successful business over that period.  He is also well known for his efforts to promote the revitalization of the Japanese economy and has served as Economic Advisor to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, as a member of the Industrial Competitiveness Council of Japan, and Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture Reform. Most recently, he was appointed as a private sector member to the Prime Minister’s Council on Economic and Fiscal Policy and serves as Senior Economic Advisor to the Prime Minister in that capacity. He also currently serves as Vice Representative of the Japan Association of Corporate Executives, as member of the Tax Commission of the government, and as a member of the Global Agenda Council on Japan at the World Economic Forum.

Business Stateswoman of the Year: Ms.Oishi is founder and president of Mediva Inc.  Mediva Inc.’s mission is to initiate bottom-up reforms in the healthcare field. The company also aims to achieve the sustainable management of healthcare providers. Mediva has widened its focus from medicine to include prevention, disease management, and alternative medicine in its scope. The company features three questions on its website that drives its business philosophy:  Are we innovative? Are we creating value for our patients and clients? Do we excite the best people?  Ms. Oishi founded Mediva in 2000, and serves on a committee of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry as well as the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare. She also serves as COO of Platanus Corporation.  Prior to establishing Mediva, Ms. Oishi was a partner and co-leader of the Health Sector at McKinsey & Company.
