Microfinance: Opportunities for Borrowers and Investors

Hear panel of experts on the latest trends in growing field of microfinance

Please join us at Roppongi Hills Club [MAPwhere a panel of experts will discuss the growing field of global microfinance from a social development and investment perspective. Learn how small loans in developing countries are helping create opportunities for a better life as well as attractive returns for socially responsible investors.

We will hear from three stakeholders in the microfinance and inclusive finance spaces. Satoko Kono works with entrepreneurs and small enterprises in Cambodia.  Kaz Ohmae gathers investments from social-minded Japanese investors via a crowdfunding platform to make loans to microfinance institutions and enterprises in Southeast Asia including Cambodia. Hiroshi Amemiya plays a catalyst role between investors and recipient organizations such as microfinance and inclusive finance institutions in developing countries.  Each speaker will addresses his/her role and propose solutions to reduce poverty.  

This event will include a delicious buffet dinner at the elegant Roppongi Hills Club.

Admission fee of 5,000 yen (payable in cash at the door) includes event plus buffet dinner, with cash bar available for all beverages.

Speakers: 

Satoko Kono 

President ARUN LLC. Her inspiration to promote social investment emerged from her 10 years of experiences in Cambodia. Prior to founding ARUN, she worked with NGOs and international aid agencies such as JICA and World Bank through which she gained knowledge and personal network in social development in Asia and Africa. Through social investment, Satoko hopes to establish a new international cooperation scheme that contributes both to the empowerment of the people and sustainable development. She has MSc from London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and a BA from International Christian University (ICU). 

Kaz Ohmae

Kaz Ohmae is President of Crowd Securities Japan, Inc, securities broker/investment bank uniquely focused on crowdfunding, based in Tokyo. Prior to turning around small investment bank into crowdfunding company, he developed AQUSH.jp, one of Japan's leading peer-to-peer lending platforms, as vice-president with Exchange Corporation, and as general manager and founding member of pure-play online bank with Internet-focused financial group. Ohmae holds an MBA from Lancaster Management School, and a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Hokkaido. 

Hiroshi Amemiya  

Japanese Representative for Developing World Markets, a US based Microfinance Investment Manager; Founder and CEO of Corporate Citizenship Japan Limited; an adjunct lecturer on CSR and Social Entrepreneurship at Meiji University’s Graduate School of Governance Studies; a founding member and board member of NPO Hands On Tokyo (a Hands On Network int’l affiliate).   Previously, he was Vice President for Product Development with Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse in Tokyo respectively.  He graduated from Harvard Kennedy School with an MPA and from Columbia Business School with an MBA.  He studied at HEC in France as an exchange student from Columbia Business School. He is Chartered Financial Analyst.
