Dr. Yukio Ishizuka graduated from Keio University Medical School, Tokyo, Japan and completed his residency in Psychiatry at Mass Mental Health Center, Harvard Medical School.  His interest in organizations and business led him to work at McKinsey and later as President and Co-founder of a subsidiary of Mitsubishi for mergers and acquisitions.  In 1976 he returned to psychiatry asking new questions of his field, "What does it mean to be well?"

Are there inescapable spheres of health and happiness that contribute to well-being? Can they help me become happier and more successful today?  Dr. Yukio Ishizuka, a Harvard trained Japanese psychiatrist, will discuss how we can grow and balance our sense of self, close intimate relationships, and our achievements.  He will discuss spheres of well-being that contribute to well-being across cultures, stress symptoms, five alternatives at our threshold for stress, fear of closeness and success and how to use setbacks and crisis and emerge stronger.

 

This lecture  will be held on Wednesday April 30th from 7-9pm. Please bring your own bento if you wish to eat. Tea and soft drinks will be provided.

Speaker bio:

Dr. Yukio Ishizuka

Dr. Yukio Ishizuka graduated from Keio University Medical School, Tokyo, Japan in 1964.  He completed his residency in Psychiatry at Mass Mental Health Center, Harvard Medical School in 1969.  His interest in organizations and business lead him to work at McKinsey & Company and later as President and Co-founder of a subsidiary of Mitsubishi for mergers and acquisitions.  In 1976 he returned to psychiatry asking new questions of his field, "What does it mean to be well?"  He is the founder of Japan International Medical Students Association (JIMSA), which received the coveted Japanese Health Culture Award in 2007 by the Minister of Japanese Health at the Japanese Imperial Palace.  His book Self-Actualization, published by Kodansha sold over 45,000 copies in Japan and was re-printed nine times.  Happily married for 44 years with three children, he is also a member of the Salmagundi Club of N.Y. as a resident artist.
