SOLD OUT** Nov. 5 (Tues) Meet Hiroshi Mikitani (MBA 1993), CEO of Rakuten & Director of JANE

A joint HCJ and HBS Club of Japan event: "Is Japan willing to change to stay globally competitive in the new economy? Is it too late?" SORRY SOLD OUT! THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT****

Will Mr. Mikitani and JANE be able to change Japan?

Can an association with over 800 companies have an agreement to hold an unified voice to effectively influence the Japanese government?

Has HBS training helped Mr. Mikitani lead this change?

This is a very unique opportunity for Harvard Club of Japan and HBS Club of Japan members to engage in a candid discussion with Mr. Mikitani.  To maintain a semi-intimate setting, we are limiting the number of attendees.  First come first served basis.  He wants to hold this meeting not just so that he could rave about JANE's activities, but to hear Alumni's valuable opinions about what they are experiencing in Japan.

Topic:

Business landscape is drastically changing throughout the world.  The change is no longer limited to so called "IT or Technology industry", but is affecting all industries. While many countries are embracing the change and creating an environment to help foster companies to take advantage of this new economy, Japan's old guards are resisting change and acting as if this "fad" will go away.

Hiroshi Mikitani (MBA 1993), founder, CEO, and Chairman of Rakuten, felt that the competitiveness of Japan was at risk and established the Japan e-business Association (JeBA) in February 2010 as a general incorporated association for the purpose of strengthening Japan’s competitiveness through the expansion of the Internet and e-business.  In order to expand its activities not only in the field of e-business but also including the new industrial development field, the Association changed its name as the Japan Association of New Economy (JANE) in June 2012.
