SOLD OUT Enoshima tour with Julia Steele, class of '05, on November 8th (Saturday)

THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT. Guided by Harvard College alumni Julia Steele. Meet her neighbors in Enoshima and enjoy views and foods!

Please join a special private tour conducted by Julia Steele, Harvard College class of ’05.

Julia has been living in the islands for 3 years and knows all the residents of this small island. She will show you a totally different side of this well-known tourist destination.

The tour begins at the Kanko Guide Center to be found on the left soon after the bridge at 10:30am. (There is a Odakyu Romance train from Shinjuku that starts at 9:10 am and arrive at 10:15 am at Enoshima station. The ride will shorten your transportation time.)

First we will visit one of the oldest shops named Kinokuniya Honten — a Japanese bakery. We will hear about the brief history of the shopping area from the owner. http://www.cityfujisawa.ne.jp/shop-info/kinokuniya.html

Then, we will move to the famous Ryokan Iwamoto-ro to visit a little history museum. We will see old maps of Enoshima and other treasures the ryokan owns. The place is open only to the guests and not to the general public. But we will be permitted to enter, thanks to Julia.

(Please note that if you would like to stay here over night, you should make a reservation soon as the rooms are quickly booked up in the fall.)

We will use escalators to climb up to Enoshima Shrine and then, Samuel Cocking Garden and Light House. We will go up to the top of the lighthouse (by an elevator) where we can see the beaches of Shichirigahama and Chigasaki as well as possibly Hakone mountains and Mount Fuji.

We will have lunch at Fujimi-tei overlooking a magnificent ocean view.

After the lunch, we will go down to Chidorigafuchi and go to Iwaya cave.

We will break up after the Iwaya visit.

Following that, the participants can join a walk with Julia, taking a different route to the residential area of the island. The yacht harbor has a small café.

You may take a boat from Iwaya (400yen) to the port close to the beach where an aquarium is. Please note that the boat ride back is subject to weather conditions.
