Other Earths and the Origins of Life

Talk in Tokyo by Dimitar Sasselov, Harvard's Phillips Professor of Astronomy and Director, Origins of Life Initiative

New evidence of exoplanets reveals larger than expected occurrence of potentially habitable worlds in our galactic neighborhood. What does this tell us about life on other planets? How do we plan to search for signs of life?

Please join us on Monday evening July 14th for this exciting lecture where Dr. Sasselov will review recent discoveries of planets orbiting other stars – exoplanets, and the new estimates of how common potentially habitable worlds appear to be. He will describe the new large effort building up to search for signatures of life on exoplanets. Central to the success of that search is a deeper understanding of the nature of life and its origins. Dr. Sasselov will review recent progress in the lab that connects to the astronomical exploration and sets the stage for answering the big question of life’s origins.

This event at the elegant Roppongi Hills Club includes a delicious standing buffet dinner after the talk. A cash bar will be available throughout for all beverages.

We hope you can join us for one of the highlight events of our summer season!
