11/05: HBS Professor Joseph Bower on Capitalism at Risk: Rethinking the Role of Business

Dear HCJ members,

HBS Club of Japan has kindly invited the Harvard Club of Japan members to the talk by HBS Professor Joseph Bower.  He will give us a talk based on his co-authored book Capitalism at Risk: Rethinking the Role of Business.

The book warns about the future of market capitalism which is fragile if it is left as it is. However the authors say that it is not the government but the businesses which should and can play the critical role to guide the future of market capitalism to benefit the people and to solve the social issues which market capitalism may create by citing actual examples of initiatives which some companies have taken to address such issues.

Professor Joe Bower is Baker Foundation Professor of Business Administration and has been HBS faculty for over 50 years. He is an expert on corporate strategy, organization and leadership. He also founded a very popular executive education program named General Management Program in 1995.

This is going to be one of the rare opportunities for our alumni to learn from our veteran faculty who kindly offered his busy time on our behalf!
