Please join us on September 2nd, 2013 for the HBS Club of Japan’s Business Statesman and Stateswoman of the Year award event. We will be honoring two outstanding business leaders in Japan who are innovating and leading their companies, while also creating great impact in the global business world. This is the club’s premier annual event and is a great way to network with fellow alumni while hearing from successful business leaders in Japan.  This year’s honorees are:

Business Statesman of the Year:  Mr. Hiroaki Nakanishi, Representative Executive Officer, President and Director, Hitachi, Ltd.   

Mr. Nakanishi has served as the Representative Executive Officer, President and Director of Hitachi from 2010, helping transform the company into a leading multinational electronics and engineering conglomerate through his Smart Transformation Project initiatives. The company is a major player in more than eleven segments ranging from IT system consulting,  financial services, to consumer electronics. Maintaining a position in the top 50 of the Fortune Global 500, Hitachi has continued to be one of leading companies in Japan and the world. Mr. Nakanishi graduated from The University of Tokyo in 1970 with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, and Stanford University with a Master's degree in Computer Engineering.

Business Stateswoman of the Year:  Ms. Sakie Akiyama, Founder and CEO, Saki Corporation. 

Ms. Sakie Akiyama is the Founder and CEO of Saki Corporation, an industrial robot manufacturing company with machine vision technology. After graduating from Kyoto University in 1987 with a B.A. in Law, Ms. Akiyama worked as a professional business and system consultant for Accenture, a business consulting firm. In 1994, she founded Saki Corporation, together with Yoshihiro Akiyama, her husband and Chief Technology Officer, to create a company where engineers shine, and in a short period of time, acquired a worldwide position in the field of automatic visual-inspection equipment for electronic parts mounting processes utilizing robotic vision technology. Ms. Akiyama has received numerous awards as a business leader and successively held major government committees in this decade. Most recently, in 2013, she was appointed on the advisory committee for the Industrial Competitiveness Council (Chairman: Prime Minister Shinzo Abe), National Strategic Special Deregulation Zones Working Group, and the advisory committees on Japanese Financial system for the Minister of Finance. Ms. Akiyama is also dedicated to fostering young entrepreneurs and served on the review board of the Development Bank of Japan’s Women Entrepreneurs New Business Plan Competition since 2012.
